How do plano lenses work?

Unlike prescription lenses, plano lenses do not refract light in any way, allowing it to pass through them without having any effect on the wearer’s vision.

FAQs

Plano lenses are so safe that they’re used in protective eyewear! If you do not have any vision impairment, standard plano lenses are perfectly safe for you. If you do require vision correction, you should always use prescription lenses in your eyewear to ensure you see clearly and avoid accidents.

As they have no corrective power, plano lenses are often indicated on a prescription by a value of 0.00 in the sphere section, or sometimes by the word “plano” or “PL”. Some people need vision correction in just one eye, so a plano lens is used for the other one.

Most glasses on display in shops use demo lenses to give a better idea of what the frames will look like when fitted with lenses. Demo lenses are fit only for this purpose, as they are thinner than real lenses and cannot have coatings applied to them.

Plano lenses are made from more durable materials and can have all the same coatings as prescription lenses.
