ca1230.JPGWomen across the planet are embracing designer eyewear, like the beautiful designs by Nike and Dior in a new way. They shy away from contact lenses in favor of designer eyeglasses that make them look powerful, professional and bold; a statement instead of a medial accessory.

Powerful and ambitious women like Sara Palin (who ran for the American Vice Presidential seat with Senator McCain in 2008) are using their glasses as a statement piece. Palin’s eyeglasses were an instant hit, and the internet was abuzz with like-minded women searching for her elusive frames. To get her look (but not copy exactly) check out the frameless designs by Ralph Lauren, which really look professional and yet unique.

Take a look at Hollywood and you’ll find stars across the scene wearing eyeglasses in public proudly. What was once impossible for a woman’s career is now almost essential. Eyeglasses give women the appearance of studiousness and seriousness, as well as the ability to advertise their fashion sense on their face. Stars like Jennifer Garner, Tina Fey and Amanda Peat are all rocking their glasses in public.

Look around your office or school and you’ll discover that even the women around you are paying more attention to their eyewear fashion. Designer eyewear is coming into the mainstream fashion industry as a real focus. This is in part because of stars like Dan Gokey (American Idol) who bring their love of eyewear fashion to the stage each time they perform and in part because people are beginning to understand fashion in a new and bold way—as an identity and persona they can manipulate and create.
