Eyewear for Sexy Men
Filed Under Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
All men were created equal, but not all men make the most of it. For starters, even a sexy dude has faults, he just does his best to hide them or extenuate his highlights. Take the dude in the image here. The sexy Carrera sunglasses make him look fashionable, even though we can only see his simple T-shirt and glasses. They add huge sexiness points.
His skin isn’t great, but with a tan his blemishes don’t stand out. Even if he lived in Alaska a trip to a tanning salon would add a lot to making him look sexier. And you can do that too. A little vitamin D and sunlight is healthy, take some time and build up a base and then tan up a bit. Your skin will look better and you’ll feel better.
Finding the best colors for your natural palate will go a long way in bringing out your best features and hiding the rest. For this fellow, oranges, yellows and some reds would be no-nos because of this blemishes and slightly yellow tinted skin color. Grey is a safe color, and a manly one. But it doesn’t look great on black skin as it makes it look ashy. White on black skin adds luster to the skin’s natural tones and makes it look richer, more vibrant. Keep colors in mind when shopping and don’t just buy what you like. Your skin will help you decide!
Finally, a few high-end designer accessories can go a long way in making your wardrobe seem more fashionable, even if it’s all second hand stuff. You don’t need to spend a fortune to look super desirable. Just splurge on the key stuff like sunglasses, watch and shoes. The jeans and tops can come from the second hand store and no one will know, but the accessories are hard to fake.

Spring Fashion Trends 2012
Filed Under Brand Wave | View Comments
Get your grandma’s lace out of storage and start looking in retro and second hand clothing shops, because 2013 spring fashion is going to be a throwback to frillier days. Starting with the hot big hitter this spring of Versace, who has always been at the forefront of frilly women’s fashion. If you’ve ever wanted to break out frilly sunglasses or overly girly gear this is the season to go nuts on girly clothing and accessories.
Along with the girly theme comes a return to girly colors. Expect lots of pale yellow, pink, beige, off white and retro additions like browns, oranges and darker yellows. You’ll also want to fuse your retro colors, patterns and designs with modern accessories. Thick belts are still in, a higher waistline remains popular in 2012, and unlike previous years the layered robes, shawls and sweaters are back in style in full force this year—giving you another chance to add color, depth and charm.
Strappy shoes are back in style, a woman’s daydream come true. And to show off the shoes you’ll need to get your long sexy legs clear of obstructions. Shorter skirts (mid-thigh) are back in style, and so are hairdos that pull your beautiful locks away from your face and show off your long neck. Like the image here, the ideal spring look for 2012 is somewhere between a lingerie show and a comfortable, natural outdoor look. Like all high fashion, these runway models take it to the extreme, but rest assured the look is securely set for spring 2012.

White Fashion
Filed Under Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
This spring white is in fashion. For many of us that is something to be excited about, but if you have kids, hate washing your clothing, or can’t stand to iron than it’s true that white will be more of a pain for you. Still, it’s a fresh, pure color and it’s ideal for spring. And in 2012, it’s going to be hot!
White bottoms seem to be the favorite this year, with a bit of a throw-back to the hot use of white in the 1960’s. Flare bottoms may not be hot, but flowing fabrics are chic and new, and add texture (the hottest new go-to word in fashion).
Black and white is especially hot now, with the bold contrast coming more into fashion than it has since the early 90s. Contrast is always hard to pull of because it detracts from the face, and in black and white most people look washed out (like the woman in the image on the right). Still, contrast is professional, bold and modern, and especially when you combine modern colors and patterns with retro or vintage cuts (like the woman in the image left).
Accessories are hot this season as well, with all black and white going back into fashion in bold ways. Check out the strappy shoes with excess strap in the image, and the larger than life black shades. Sunglasses are always in, but when you are dressing professionally bright colors don’t fit the fashion. Black and white will also be chic, even when colors come back into vogue.

Eyewear for Redheads
Filed Under Celebrity Watch, Designer Eyeglasses | View Comments
Some say that color is the single most important aspect of choosing fashionable pieces for redheads, but style plays a lot more into eyewear fashion than mere color. Take, for example, the classic black square frames by Ralph Lauren and put them on a redhead and they look as professional and sleek as they would on a brunette.
Redheads know they look stunning in green, that doesn’t need to be rehashed. Still, when it comes to sunglasses that’s where the redhead can have some fun. Greens, patterns and especially new designs and shapes are all the redhead could ask for to make her fashionable look really stand out.
But eyeglasses are another matter. Many redheads have stunning freckles, a feature they shouldn’t cover with concealer or foundation. Freckles add personality, add charm and youth. Look at Morgan Freeman, what would he be like without his freckles? If you have the fortune to have these beauty marks don’t waste them by covering them with clunky eyewear. Instead, wear frameless glasses to highlight your natural beauty.
Finally, with red hair a few clichés to avoid include neon greens, pinks, oranges and reds. All of these gimmicks have been played out and overdone. Your best bet is to try something new. Try a deep blue, a beautiful color contrast to red and not as cliché, or think earth tones with tan, brown or even shades of olive. Earthy looks are stunning on redheads, who represent fire and have a more natural glow to their hair than other shades.

Don’t write off the thrift shops in your neighborhood off just yet. Think about it. Every time someone gains weight they toss out their designer and fashionable clothing. You’ll find all kinds of accessories and amazing fabrics and clothing at thrift shops, and it’s cheap and for a good cause. Still, the most important thing about a cheap thrift-shop wardrobe is to accessorize with designer gear. If you’re wearing all reclaimed clothing, you need real designer sunglasses, possibly Ray Bans or Police, to balance out the look.
Always work in contradictions and opposing features. You’ll want to balance out ripped jeans with a designer scarf or Prada handbag. This part of your wardrobe will cost a bit more, but with all the money you saved on clothing you’ll have a bit to spare on accessories. And one of the top ways to go is to shop for your high-end gear online. You’ll find a wider selection and pries are usually cheaper. Plus, some online stores have ongoing discounts or free additions to each purchase.
So, with your thrift shop jeans, your sexy flannel saved from the second-hand store you’ll need to pair these up with sexy shades and beautifully done hair and makeup. Spending a bit more time on your look doesn’t have to cost more, but it will have a high return on investment. You will feel and look better when you dress better. Fashion isn’t about wearing designer gear from head to toe, it’s about looking good and feeling good, regardless of if others think it’s fashionable. What matters is what you feel and think.

Male Identity through fashion
Filed Under Celebrity Watch | View Comments
Many men frame their identity more precisely around their fashion than women. You’d be surprised, but men project an outward appearance that is more in line with who they perceive themselves to be than what women aim for. This is also because men easily read each other’s fashion to determine if they will have any slated interest in one another as peers.
For example, a man who is a jock or a fan of sports projects this to the outside world by wearing sporting attire or jerseys.
The man in the image here is trying to project several things at once, and thus to many other men will be written off as arrogant or scattered. His scarf shows an artistic side, his torn jeans show he is a man’s man while the rich overcoat with handkerchief show he is classy and a man to be respected in the traditional sense. From the cameraman in the background we can tell he is a celebrity, which is part of the reason this man feels he needs to project many images at once.
A man who loves the outdoors will project this to other men by wearing cargo jeans, flannel shirts, boots or even just by wearing clothing that looks ill-washed. Most men do these things subconsciously, but the goal is to attract other men who have similar interests to form a clique with. This stems from the caveman survivalist where clans looked for similar-minded men to team up with to protect their larger family units.

Best Hollywood Sunglasses
Filed Under Brand Wave, Celebrity Watch, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
One of the hottest films of late, Sherlock Holmes 2, displays an amazing number of sunglasses on the primary character played by Robert Downey Jr. This despite the fact that the film takes place in 1890. Still, the shades he is wearing have the distinctly cool look of a bygone era despite being excessively modern.
For a similar look, try Oliver Peoples’ bold circular lenses, which Larry David has made more popular in his TV series Curb Your Enthusiasm. Not to mention the popularity added by the success of the Harry Potter empire. Still, these slightly more modern rounded shades are hard to pull off when not on a set. Consider a more approachable option with something less film prop and more functional. This is especially true of the tiny, square framed lenses Holmes wears in the film. A similar look by Police sunglasses are a more adaptable and preferable.
Some of the other looks to emulate in a more modern way include the looks made popular in Bridesmaids, where sunglasses are used more as a hangover tool than as a means of blocking the sun. Still, the oversized shades popular in Prada or Dior remain a top seller for beautiful women, especially those with a propensity for the drink.
Robot boxing flick Real Steel with Hugh Jackman shows us once again why Jackman was one of the hottest men alive. His fashion is always simple and stark, and yet approachable. Flannel shirts, white T-shirts, jeans and simple men’s sunglasses by Serengeti or Police make him one of the most simple fashion looks to mimic.

Saving the World with Fashion
Filed Under Brand Wave | View Comments
High fashion doesn’t have to mean low-brow environmental habits, in fact, many of the world’s most fashionable brands are going green. Help save the world, one beautiful piece of clothing or designer accessory at a time. Here’s how Prada is saving the world with accessories.
High-end items are made more durable and resilient than their cheaper counterparts, and as such they source more natural and lasting materials for their products. A Gucci purse, for example, will last years with normal wear and tear before it ends up in a landfill, polluting the earth. Thus, the one production cost (in terms of carbon credits and pollution) is minimal compared to the life of the item. This is in stark contrast to cheaper items, fakes and low-quality gear. While you may save money by buying cheap stuff, it ends up hurting the environment when it ends up floating in the ocean or rotting under the earth. Think green and buy one high-end item that you know will last.
Since designer companies use high-end materials you can be sure the cottons are authentic and not produced synthetically. Fake fabrics have a heavy chemical cost to the environment, and bleaching, dying, starching and creating cheap fabric is one sure way to pollute the earth with waste materials, but also with an excess of chemicals. The more natural a product, the better. And high-end gear is traditionally made of high-end materials that don’t have the same negative effect as cheap, knock-off fabrics and materials. Think green, and go designer.

Fantasy Fashion Fads
Filed Under Celebrity Watch, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
With the success of the Game of Thrones, True Blood, Skyrim, Twilight, Harry Potter and many more fantasy sitcoms, books and games fantasy fashion is on the rise. Braided hair is as popular now as it was in the Middle Ages. Large, leather belts are back in style, boots are somehow chic to wear year round, and jewelry is getting so large it’s bordering on comical. Still, blending these fantasy fashions with high-end gear may actually result in decent fashion. Pair Serengeti sunglasses with your leather vest and perhaps you’ll look chic instead of a tad on the creepy side. Or, slip on Prada shades with your giant leather belt and boots and you may look like Angelina Jolie rather than an odd Renaissance geek.
Still, the turn to more traditional looks are not unnatural considering how confused so many people are going broke, losing faith in the future and wondering what has happened to the world around them. The return to traditionalism is natural in hard times, especially in a once-thriving economy like the western world once enjoyed. Expect to see more white lace, innocent designs and less slutty stuff. Leather and large belts, boots and other Renaissance gear will stay in fashion. Sweaters, knits and especially all-natural fabrics are likely to be the rage in 2012, as fantasy fashion takes the place of real, modern looks and a turn towards traditionalism sweeps the once infallible western world. For sunglasses fashion, consider more traditional looks by Ray Ban, or subtle looks like Serengeti or traditional Tom Fords. These looks are timeless and have the effect of avoiding pretention.

Dumb Sunglasses Designs
Filed Under Celebrity Watch, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
Every once in a while you’ll run across a celebrity (Lady Gaga comes to mind) who will wear anything flamboyant to get attention. That isn’t fashion, it’s a middle child’s attempt at garnishing adult attention, and it’s amateur. A-listers hardly ever have to go to extremes to get media attention, only the celebs who know they don’t really “have it” have to jazz up their media coverage with silly fashion statements. For example, Will.i.am is a decently famous musician, but what’s with the silly attention-grabbing Mykita sunglasses (image right)? These look like something a director for a B-level movie would commission for a film about badasses on Mars.
And check out Whitney Port in these ridiculous Karen Walker-Bunny shades. They look like something that would have come out of a candy box in the 1930s. I like retro flashback fashion as much as the next aficionado, but this is over the top, and a cheesy attempt at something nostalgic ill-achieved by using cheap plastic. Also, if you don’t know who Whitney Port is your in the majority, and this goes to prove that only B-listers (or C or D listers) will try to grab attention with silly wardrobe flare while out in public.
One major celebrity who defies the odds is the queen Lady Gaga, now I’m no fan of her brass, baseless music but I do recognize a certain Madonna-like manipulation of the media that is amusing. She comes out in public dressed in clothes made of meat, rags, cross-dressing, and all the while the joke is on the public for consuming her banal offerings like wolves in a chicken coop. While Will.i.am and Whitney Port wear flamboyant shades for attention, Lady Gaga has the whole persona going, and that at least garnishes some respect. Not in the fashion sense, but in the sense that she really has committed to this alter-ego and is running with it, crazy sunglasses and all.
