This summer Oakley outdid itself by releasing a new line of sunglasses that donate a portion of all proceeds to the Action Sports Environmental Coalition (ASEC) which was founded by Bob Burnquist in 2001. Oakley has named the new Gascan line after the famed environmentalist, the Bob Burnquist Gascan line, aimed at honoring not only the athlete and the man, but his contribution to environmentalism. Bob made a name for himself as an Olympic skater from Brazil at an early age, and has defined himself as an all-around athlete and humanitarian, and in his spare time runs an organic farm.

The Burnquist sunglasses pay homage to the Gascan design, with thick, clear lines and a bulky shape. They are environmentally friendly in that they are made from recycled sunglasses materials as well as excess materials from the manufacture of other designs. The fiber of the sunglasses is 100% biodegradable, while the logo and storage bags are made from certified organic bamboo. Meanwhile, Oakley is using recycled paper and ink for packaging materials making this a fully functional, designer pair of sunglasses that don’t harm the environment.

Despite their recycled status, don’t be fooled. Oakley does not produce low quality eyewear just to fill a humanitarian check box. The glasses come with premium features, including scratch and water resistant coatings, polarization and the clearest possible range of vision thanks to the lenses being cut from a single piece of glass. Naturally, they block UV rays, are lightweight and impact resistant, and meet all international lens and frame requirements. So, for any tree huger who wants to stay in style, these are the frames for you!
