An often asked question, do sunglasses really protect your eyes and increase your health? The simple answer is yes. There isn’t any industry hype over the benefits of wearing sunglasses; even designer sunglasses like Prada and Dior have their benefits to your health and eye longevity. The simple fact is that extreme damage and even blindness can result from the UV rays from the sun. If you are out in the sun, the rays are hitting your eyes and although a certain amount of Vitamin D is healthy, it is never useful directly in your eye. Short answer—yes, you need to wear sunglasses to stay healthy.

The sun is a giant ball of flaming gasses and it is the source of all life on earth. Nevertheless, as it gives life it can also take it away with over exposure. Cancer of the skin is caused from too much time in the sun without protection. Blindness can be caused from too much contact with the sun without protection. If for some reason you want to look at the sun you will need more than just sunglasses to do so, eye strain results in looking at it even with extremely strong sunglasses. Scientists have specific sunglasses for gazing at the sun, and you’d need these to even catch a real glimpse.

Do different types of sunglasses protect you in different ways? The answer to that is yes. You want sunglasses with 100% UV protection and nothing less. Don’t settle for cheap knock-offs, make sure the sunglasses you purchase are real. Designer sunglasses are high quality and use finer materials and, in the end, offer slightly better protection but they are not necessary purely to save your sight, simple cheaper (but still 100% UV protecting) sunglasses will do the same trick.

How long can you leave in your contact lenses? Well, that depends on a lot of factors. First, if you have high-end brand name contacts like those by Coopervision, you probably have much higher quality materials in your eye, which are bound to be less irritating than cheaper generic lenses. Still, this doesn’t mean you can leave them in indefinitely.

Second, contact lenses are defined by whether they are disposable or reusable. If you have disposable contacts you shouldn’t leave them in longer than your box suggests. The materials are not designed for longevity and dirt and dust can get behind the lens and cause eyestrain, scratching or even scarring if the particles are big enough. Even with disposable contacts, if you find yourself in a bind you can take them out, rinse them in saline solution and put them back in for a bit longer. Reusable contacts need to be cleaned daily in order to be useful long-term.

Finally, if you are in a massive bind and have to leave them in overnight or for multiple days without access to saline solution, you can put the contacts gently in your mouth and clean them before reinserting them into your eye. This isn’t something you should do on a constant basis, but in an emergency your saliva will clean them more than just leaving them in your eye. Another solution is to rinse the contacts in salt water, which is essentially saline, but this can cause a bit of irritation, and you have to ensure the salt is dissolved or the granules could scratch the lenses.

Spring means cleaner air, warmer weather and, for many, a reemergence from long hibernation indoors. When you step out of the house in spring you feel rejuvenated, fresh and alive! Unfortunately, the sun is starting to get brighter and the damage it can cause your skin and eyes has begun to worsen as summer looms. Its time for you to dig out your designer Oliver Peoples, slather on sunscreen and pull on a floppy hat, because spring is right around the corner in Canada!
So, what are the best sunglasses for spring? Well, you don’t need to go all out with giant summer sunglasses (like Prada’s oversized Jackie-O style) but you do need mild protection from the sun for safety while driving and, most importantly, to look cool.

These chic Fendi frames (image) are gorgeous and perfect for spring. They have lighter lenses and add color and a bit of fashion pow! to any outfit. Expect to see bold new colors and designs emerging this spring, as people across North America brush off the snow and step outside eager for flowers, color, fashion and fun. Your best bet for spring fashion eyewear is to go bold, go bright or go home and wait for next winter to barrage you once again behind closed, fashion-less doors.

You can also expect fresh new models to be on display from all the major design houses in the coming weeks. Everything from impressive new designs on traditional shapes, like the horn-rimmed look, and inverted fashion statements that are the exact contrast to previous years’ looks.

Okay, so your new year’s resolutions may not be going that well. This will cheer you up though. February is the New Year in Asia based on the lunar calendar. That gives you license for a whole new fresh start. Want to overhaul your wardrobe, through out your Wal-Mart clothing and grab real designer rags like those by Ralph Lauren or Armani even? If you failed in January, don’t worry, you have February as a mulligan! So, celebrate the Year of the Rabbit by making new resolutions, ones that you know you can follow through with now that you’ve used January as a trial.

Start off with reasonable thinking. Don’t plan to lose 20 pounds, but instead think about smaller steps you can take that are more attainable. For example, aim to lose two pounds a month. Sure it will take a long time to lose that 20 pounds, but two pounds a month for a year is a realistic goal and one you are much more likely to carry through with. And just think, two pounds isn’t that much! What an attainable goal to try for by March. And then, once March arrives, what an attainable goal to lose two pounds by April! See how easy it is, and this time next year you’ll be your dream weight, sexy, slim and gorgeous.

If you want to overhaul your wardrobe, don’t just toss it all in the trash at once and then spend a fortune on new gear. Instead, assess each piece with a new frame of mind. How would a celebrity wear this item to make it fresh and cool? Can you alter it, or pair it with something unique to make it sparkle? Toss out the stuff you simply can’t fit into the new picture of yourself and once you have what remains you’ll need to accessorize. This is the most important ‘new wardrobe’ aspect. Designer eyewear and sunglasses are key, like hot brands MiuMiu and Alexander McQueen, and then think jewelry. You’ll want items that make a statement. Don’t buy simple gold chains, go for the flashy and bold this year. If you want your new wardrobe to attract attention that you need to make it attention worthy!

1. Pick eyeglasses that suit your hair and skin tones, as well as your bone structure. Large black Dior glasses won’t look as great on a thin red head as well as it would on a blond, for example.

2.Soak your eyeglasses overnight if they are greasy or have tiny scratches. Often, an overnight soak in soapy water will release debris.

3.Clean you glasses only with eyewear cleaning clothes, not tissue or your clothing.

4.Spend your money wisely, your face is the first thing people see so don’t skimp on your mostnoticeable and important accessory. Same with sunglasses and anything that has fashion and medical benefits.

5.Choose a brand of glasses that suits your lifestyle. A librarian isn’t likely to look natural in Ed Hardy, for example.

6.Never follow celebrity trends. They are often flashes in the pan and will make you look foolish for a short period of time and then your friends will have pictures of you as a fad follower to mock you with down the road. Think Vanilla Ice and never follow any trend that looks stupid, unlikely to last or outrageous.

7.Keep your glasses in the same place every night so you can easily find the in the morning rush. Your sunglasses, likewise, should be in a hard carry case so you have them with you at all times.

8.Designer eyeglasses are better quality and thus last longer, are more comfortable and receive more praise that cheap knock-offs. Designer eyewear is, therefore, the only way to go.

9.Avoid switching between your glasses and freestyle often. This can result in headaches and eye strain.

10.Never touch your eyes with your hands. You’ve seen where they’ve been and we all know you don’t wash your hands as frequently as you should!

Believe it or not, winter is the worst season for eye health. People often leave home without their sunglasses in winter, they associate sunglasses with summer I suppose. Nevertheless, the harsh, dry winter wind dries the eyes, the light unbroken by trees causes squinting and eye strain and if there is snow present the sun reflects upwards into the eyes from multiple angles. Thus, in winter, sunglasses are actually more useful and necessary. So, grab your trusty Bolle sunglasses and block mother nature from ravaging your eyes prematurely.

Many women suffer crow’s feet, wrinkles in the outer corners of their eyes, as a result of straining and squinting in winter. The best way to avoid crow’s feet isn’t with facial creams and nighttime ointments, but with high quality, designer sunglasses. Designer sunglasses are durable, reputable and block UV rays as well as help you look fashionable and beautiful. They are a necessary tool in all seasons for any woman who wants younger, fresher looking skin and brighter eyes.

If you plan on hitting the slopes this winter, plan ahead and bring a pair of sunglasses that are durable and easy to store in your pocket. That way, when you aren’t wearing your ski goggles you can slip easily into your sunglasses.

Ski goggles are, in themselves, an essential winter sports tool. The orange tint increases contrast making it easier for you to see bumps and breaks in the snow or ice. Meanwhile, it protects your skin and eyes from wind and cold as well as UV rays and eye-strain. They are a must have for skiing, snowboarding or outdoor ice skating.

Dior is where its at if you if you think you are a princess. Dior has everything you look for, it’s a designer brand that has designer prestige and yet the intricate and delicate metal designs on the temple bars are metalwork that is as sweet and sultry as lace forged from metal. Dior is for women who know what they want, demand the finest quality goods and have a distinct idea about what women’s fashion involves.

The hottest names in women’s eyewear fashion include more than Dior, although for the princess-type Dior is tops. You could try MiuMiu, which is an up and coming star in the fashion world, especially among young and confident women. The sunglasses are new and fresh and the colors are vibrant and adorable.

For older princesses, you might need a look that is more grown up and yet lets the people around you know you still have that princess vibe. Prada means power, Versace means European glamour, but Armani means princess, and a whole new princes at that. You can’t just walk around in Dior or MiuMiu if you are over 30, but you can still rock your sex appeal and princess look with a new look at what makes you sexy, confident and bold.

Princesses don’t always have to wear pink, either, you can be sexy and princess-like in any color (although, black isn’t the best princess hue).

Staying fashionable and chic doesn’t always mean following any little trend you see pop up on the fringe. Sometimes the tried and true, and relatively mainstream designs, like Prada’s beautiful fall release, are popular for a reason. But just the same, fringe fashion can be fun, sexy, vibrant and unique. This year’s fringe fashion has been alive and well, probably new life was breathed into the art of fringe fashion by Lady Gaga, who recently worse a dress made of raw meat! Now that is a good mix of fashion and politics, and definitely exists on the fringe of the fashion world.

This fall, fringe fashion is expected to take a bit of an animalistic turn. keep an eye out of animal prints, especially in accessories like purses, shoes and sunglasses. To get in on the look early, start purchasing vintage designs that incorporate animal print with 1960s style clean lines and textured fabrics. Fringe fashion is all about pushing fashion the the edge and yet staying close to what the public needs to see and wants to have. You might not see this animal print trend turn mainstream, but in the fringe fashion world, expect to see a few key pieces vibrantly and politically decked out with animal prints.

Hats are also coming back into fringe fashion, and here size does matter. We’re expecting larger-than-life hats with flamboyant arches and curves, and possibly an insurgency of feathers and boas. We expect to see hats return to the mainstream in a less obvious way, but in the meantime fringe fashion will keep the rest of the world entertained with their dedication to the obvious.

If you are a first-time glasses or contact lenses wearer you’ll want to know what to expect this winter with your new optical accessories. For starters, neither option is ideal in winter and, depending on how harsh your climate is, both can be a burden you’ll need to do a bit of work to deal with. For example, glasses in winter can fog up from your breath, or attract moisture and make it impossible for you to see. Wiping away moisture with a gloved hand leaves streaks, and not wiping means you can’t see. You’re in a catch 22, my friend.

With contact lenses, in high wind or rain you’ll have a bit of a moisture problem to the other extreme. Contacts can dry out your eyes and in any situation where they can get even drier you’ll be a bit uncomfortable. Even worse, in extreme weather gel contacts can start to freeze or keep the cold close to your eye, which is also uncomfortable. So, what are you to do in winter?

One solution is to buy moisture-enhancing contact lenses that are single use, Acuvue is a good contact lens company for this. Another solution is to wear normal contact lenses, but then wear anti-fog and anti-moisture glasses over the top of them. Similarly, you can purchase designer sunglasses and eyeglasses with anti-scratch, anti-fog and anti-moisture coatings. These cost a bit extra, but in the long run you’ll thank yourself this winter. Designer eyewear is definitely worth the extra cost for quality and longevity.

Women never know which to go for. There is always the rugged, good looking outdoorsman clad in Serengeti sunglasses and flannel, or the dangerous biker wearing Police sunglasses and revving his Harley in tune with the bar’s raging music. What about the businessman with decidedly good taste, stepping out of the office in an Armani suit with matching sunglasses? Finally, an athlete would be nice, someone in Adidas shades and tight bike shorts perhaps. Yes, women have it hard trying to choose which style of man will rev their engine, and fashion plays an even bigger part in the ultimate decision than you might think.

Take, for example, the outdoorsman. Not much separates the rugged good looking man in flannel from a truck driver dripping mustard down his front. Yet, with the proper eyewear and a bit of detergent, it is possible the two could be on par with each other in a bar. It all depends on how you carry yourself and what you are wearing. The sexy athlete could be extremely alluring, or strangely creepy depending on the equipment balanced with attitude. Football stars don’t get fan clubs full of hotties for no reason, and it isn’t just the bulging muscles, it’s the confidence and presentation.

Next time you go shopping, which we all know is about once a year and you drag your feet along even at such a rare interval, think about what women want before you look at the on-sale clothing rack full of sweatpants. Instead, go for some loose-fit jeans, a simple T-shirt, a brown leather jacket and a nice pair of designer sunglasses, preferably something with a bit of edge and sex appeal without being overly loud. See what that does to your A-game next night at the bar and even you will be a fashion convert.
