For long distance drivers and bikers, you’ll want a pair of sturdy, lightweight, high UV protection sunglasses that are comfortable, form-fitted and designed for prolonged wear. For men, Police sunglasses are especially popular because of the comfort, design and the increased blockage of peripheral glare and light that is so commonly the cause of eye strain and skin damage. Police sunglasses have some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities as supporters including Justin Timberlake, George Clooney and Antonio Bandaras. For bikers, drivers and motorway fans Police sunglasses are recognizable, bold and a smart choice for optimal protection.

For female drivers and bikers, there are several options for eyewear that will be comfortable with long-term wear. It is important for women not to buy men’s sunglasses, regardless of how much they may love some of the male designs. Women have smaller heads and the area between lenses on men’s sunglasses could be too large for prolonged comfort. You may also find that men’s sunglasses are a bit heavier. There are tougher options for women that still have a masculine edge, like the Ray Bans designed for her, or some of Bolle’s recreational sunglasses. Women might also enjoy Prada and Dior sunglasses for driving or biking because of the larger lenses and frames. They may not fit the biker wardrobe, but they do offer UV protection, durability, comfort and some fairly creative designs.

Many serious bikers consider changing to goggles for long drives, and this isn’t a bad practice although you might get a few strange looks from passers by. Goggles, like those by Ed Hardy, can be fashionable and bold as well as protective and cleanable so bug carcasses that land against the lenses can easily be wiped clean.

It isn’t always easy to find designer eyeglasses that fit your look, personality and style and yet stand out enough to be worth the investment for the designer brand. In 2010, however, some designers have emerged victoriously in the eyeglasses market for their high quality, high fashion designs.

Gucci. Always a favorite for sunglasses, Gucci’s eyeglasses are a simple and yet high fashion solution for your eyeglasses needs. The wireless designs are especially popular with women because they maintain a high fashion feel without compromising your visual range or becoming overly bulky. (See image of Gucci eyeglasses).

Christian Dior. For a more urban, retro feel check out Christian Dior’s black frame collection. These heavier black frames are all the rage this year, and have been popular on men and women. We foresee a slow shift from the black frames to tortoiseshell frames over the fall.

Ermenegildo Zenga. If you want a European look that does not have even the slightest bit of Americana in it, you’ll want to look at the Zenga eyeglasses collection. These interesting frames have emphasis on the temple bars, come in a wide range of colors and have a bit more diversity than your Gucci or Dior eyeglasses collections.

Ed Hardy. If you want to go a bit wild with your eyeglasses, then Ed Hardy is where you’ll want to head for your next pair of glasses. The lenses themselves are in a fairly traditional size and shape, but the temple bars are where the magic happens. You have to see it to believe it, each model looks amazingly bold and creative and will infuse any look with a splash of color.

Roberto Cavalli. If you want elegance and interesting features on your eyeglasses, you’ll have to check out the amazingly intricate and fancy designs of Cavalli. From lace-like temple bars to frameless designs, this is where you’ll want to go if you have a fancy bone in your body itching to be expressed.

Outdoors sunglasses are an important accessory for any biking or hiking activity, especially as the summer gets hotter and cases of sun damage and eye stress can ruin a good outdoor time. One of the best brands for hiking is Serengeti, their casual look and feel make them a non-obtrusive option. The gradient tint gives stronger protection on the top with more visibility on the bottom so you can see where you place each footstep.

For biking, especially the kind with pedals, you’ll want something that is impact resistant, fits firmly on your head and can withstand moisture with anti-fog (and perspiration) coatings on the lenses. A great option for this is Oakley, as their high-quality frames and lenses are a perfect melody of durability and performance-enhancing attributes. Likewise, Nike’s similar athletic shades are a bit less expensive and offer similar quality and design.

For biking of the motorized kind, Oakley sunglasses might land you in the hot spot. Instead, you’ll want to investigate something a bit more aggressive than your average sports sunglasses. For example, Police sunglasses with their stark designs and bold frames are a great option and go nicely with any Harley or BMW classic. Throw on a pair of denim jeans and a leather jacket and you’ll look exactly the biker part. Likewise, and for a bit less bold a look, you could always stick to the more traditional biker option of Ray Ban aviators and Wayfarers are a great bikers choice and are durable and snug.

For summer, there are few designer sunglasses brands more popular than Ray Ban. But if you want something a bit edgier and modern, we’ve got a list of amazing up and coming summer favorites that will keep you looking fresh, trendy and sporty.

Take, for example, Serengeti sunglasses. These shades are perfect for the adventurous personality and also offers a bit of a sporty feel to give you a well rounded and yet designer look. For men and women alike, Serengeti offers something for everyone. You’ll be impressed by the light brown (almost bronze) lenses that give the world a softer, almost sepia tone hue.

For a more sporty look, Bolle does a similar sunglasses line that covers the biking and hiking crowd. These sit firmly in place, offer supreme protection, and look like they belong in the great (albeit designer) outdoors. For active, sporty and adventurous men and women, Bolle and Serengeti are your top two picks.

For flare, creativity and spunk, you’ll want something with a bit more color than your Bolle, Serengeti or Ray Ban options. Alexander McQueen just might be the design house for you. These frames are creative in shape and spectacular in hue. Although the designer of the same name recently passed away, the brand continues on the tradition of true innovation and fun. These may be somewhat less appropriate for sports, but for casual athletics like hiking or easy bike riding, these will suit perfectly.

Finally, your go-to brands for sporting eyewear- Oakley, Nike and Adidas. These offer great protection with performance enhancing attributes like slightly orange tinted lenses for optimal contrast, and protective coatings on the lenses for extreme weather and activity.

ca0317.jpgIf you’re looking for sunglasses that don’t fit the mold, look no further than the ever-impressive Spy Sunglasses. You’ll be impressed with their creativity and ingenuity, as well as the versatile designs and creative new shapes Spy sunglasses offer. These looks are a favorite of Will Smith, whose characters in recent films have been futuristic, athletic and bold, all of which Spy embody. For men, the look is bold, fresh and new and would be perfect on any modern man who prides himself on being up-to-date with the latest in technology and automotives. They are amazing eyewear for bikers, skaters and snowboarders – or any adrenaline junkies. And if you think all these modern designs with edgy appeal will cost you a bundle then think again! You’ll get name-brand quality and recognition for a lower price with Spy.

For women, there is a softer Spy look that Rihanna loves to sport with her ever-modern wardrobe. Although a bit clunky and heavy, they can look amazing with a modern hair do, or with a bit of creativity. You’ll love the attention they garnish for you and your sense of fashion. Meanwhile, the Spy brand can only increase in fame and you’ll get in on that look at the ground level, where you’ll also be credited by friends and co workers as an innovative and aspiring fashion guru. And not all Spy designs are square and black, you’ll find interesting new round-eye shapes with a bold range of color mixes that look dashing and unique, like black rounded frames with pink gradient tinting and silver edging—a look that is sure to catch on with fashion-happy women everywhere.

ca0127.JPGFor the woman’s woman there are only a few named that can elicit fashion ecstasy, and they are Versace, Prada, Gucci and Dior. But for a truly feminine lady hoping to branch out past these designer staples, here are a few feminine fashion brands you might want to consider for your next eyewear purchase.

Ed Hardy sunglasses, for example, are a feminine but more colorful and exciting design variety that allows for a more edgy and adventurous look than many Prada products could afford. Pictured here, these graffiti-like sunglasses are sweeping the nation with fresh color and flare, two things your typical woman’s eyewear lacks.

Silhouette Sunglasses are beyond sexy for any classy lady as they literally exude confidence, charm and fashion. Audrey Hepburn would have worn these shades if only she could have gotten her hands on them. With tortoiseshell back in style in 2010, Silhouette is a modern way to update a look your grandma might be familiar with.

For an incredibly modern, Lady Gaga look, check out the chic designs of Byblos, a new way to make your soft, feminine features really shine is to modernize your accessories and highlight your body and face as a canvas to the arts. You’ll love the way your accessories really pop, and this fashion trend is the hottest thing in the design world at present.

Remember to have fun with your eyewear. Being a woman is about having more fun than men, making yourself and the world around you look good, and doing it all with a smile!

Many fashion trends of 2009 were shocking, spectacular, and astonishingly modern. While 2010 fashion remains to be seen, we have a rare glimpse at what will be popular in January of 2010, the first step in a twelve month series of fashion steps.

Modernity is being highlighted with fresh vigor and new incentives: now the future is upon us. Think leather, black, robots and metal hinges. If you can visualize these things in terms of sunglasses than you know what will be in fashion in 2010. Brands like Prada and Dior are sure to keep up with the trends, but the people setting them are a bit more interesting than those who follow. Think Alexander McQueen to see what’s up before the design houses know how to reproduce it.

Larger-than-life sunglasses in sleek colors and textures are the wave of the future, or at least the wave of right now as far as that goes. Alexander McQueen’s fashion sense is to adopt the future as its own young and to nourish it into maturity and release it to the public. He sucks the marrow out of the fashion world and spews it into new designs that invoke awe and inspire the population to rethink their sense of style, modernity and whatever notions they had of the future of fashion.

Whether you are looking for high fashion or futuristic flare, you’ll find both with Alexander McQueen and the new sense of modernity and fashion that is 2010. Think large, think square, think futuristic and fun.

ca0113.JPG2010 will bring a whole new swath of colors, fresh textures, vibrant shapes and exhilarating depth. Before the new season fully envelopes our fashion attention, let’s summarize the best fashion favorites of 2009 that include a hot resurgence from Ray Ban and shocking new styles from Prada.

2009 saw the product growth of Prada after the release of the acclaimed film, “The Devil Wears Prada.” After the film’s wild success, Prada’s own fashion destiny was intertwined with that of the film, and designs grew and expanded as the box office numbers rose. After the initial fascination, Prada managed to continue to enthrall the fashion world with their sleek, modern and professional flare.

2009 also saw the re-release of the Ray Ban Clubmaster. Capitalizing on Ray Ban’s heightened success due to a resurgence in the wearing of aviators, the company quickly re-released the Clubmaster series in bold new colors and with a winning marketing team. The look took a while to stick, but eventually circulated around Hollywood and the California beaches before going mainstream.

Perhaps the most noticeable fashion trend of 2009 in the eyewear realm was the surge in geek chic eyewear for sexy business professionals. Nike, Ralph Lauren and Versace all made rimless, professional eyewear a priority in 2009 thanks to the popularity of rimless eyewear made so by Sara Palin. Similarly, dark, thick framed glasses were also part of the geek chic craze, with black frames becoming so popular fashionable women were wearing them even without lenses.

Have you been considering a dramatic change in your fashion appearance for the new year? Many people use this time of year to try new things, like contact lenses from Focus or to try out a new shape or frame on their day-to-day glasses. Why not be experimental this year and try something that will not only make you look youthful and brilliant, but in the ‘know’ fashion wise. Here are a few tips on how to update your look without breaking the piggy bank.ca0103.JPG

Find fashionable new glasses that really fit your face and exemplify the fashion look you are going for. Buy frames that are slightly outside your comfort level, fashion wise, and grow into the bold look. For example, thick black frames are in style this season, why not get those frames with semi-tinted lenses for the office? It’s a bold look that screams confidence, designer fashion and upscale taste. Like the image here of Victoria Beckham, you can see that a simple black dress is turned into a fashionable and fresh outfit by adding oversized sunglasses in a risky size and shape for her face, but one that really pays off and looks great.

If you already wear designer glasses from day to day, why not use the new year as a great chance to switch to contact lenses? With designer lenses, like those by Focus, that come in any color and are form-fitted and comfortable, it is really about time you try contacts out again. As far as technology has come in recent years, you are sure to find the contact-wearing experience much more enjoyable this time around.

This summer Oakley outdid itself by releasing a new line of sunglasses that donate a portion of all proceeds to the Action Sports Environmental Coalition (ASEC) which was founded by Bob Burnquist in 2001. Oakley has named the new Gascan line after the famed environmentalist, the Bob Burnquist Gascan line, aimed at honoring not only the athlete and the man, but his contribution to environmentalism. Bob made a name for himself as an Olympic skater from Brazil at an early age, and has defined himself as an all-around athlete and humanitarian, and in his spare time runs an organic farm.

The Burnquist sunglasses pay homage to the Gascan design, with thick, clear lines and a bulky shape. They are environmentally friendly in that they are made from recycled sunglasses materials as well as excess materials from the manufacture of other designs. The fiber of the sunglasses is 100% biodegradable, while the logo and storage bags are made from certified organic bamboo. Meanwhile, Oakley is using recycled paper and ink for packaging materials making this a fully functional, designer pair of sunglasses that don’t harm the environment.

Despite their recycled status, don’t be fooled. Oakley does not produce low quality eyewear just to fill a humanitarian check box. The glasses come with premium features, including scratch and water resistant coatings, polarization and the clearest possible range of vision thanks to the lenses being cut from a single piece of glass. Naturally, they block UV rays, are lightweight and impact resistant, and meet all international lens and frame requirements. So, for any tree huger who wants to stay in style, these are the frames for you!
