Women Embracing Eyewear
Filed Under Brand Wave, Celebrity Watch, Designer Eyeglasses | View Comments
Women across the planet are embracing designer eyewear, like the beautiful designs by Nike and Dior in a new way. They shy away from contact lenses in favor of designer eyeglasses that make them look powerful, professional and bold; a statement instead of a medial accessory.
Powerful and ambitious women like Sara Palin (who ran for the American Vice Presidential seat with Senator McCain in 2008) are using their glasses as a statement piece. Palin’s eyeglasses were an instant hit, and the internet was abuzz with like-minded women searching for her elusive frames. To get her look (but not copy exactly) check out the frameless designs by Ralph Lauren, which really look professional and yet unique.
Take a look at Hollywood and you’ll find stars across the scene wearing eyeglasses in public proudly. What was once impossible for a woman’s career is now almost essential. Eyeglasses give women the appearance of studiousness and seriousness, as well as the ability to advertise their fashion sense on their face. Stars like Jennifer Garner, Tina Fey and Amanda Peat are all rocking their glasses in public.
Look around your office or school and you’ll discover that even the women around you are paying more attention to their eyewear fashion. Designer eyewear is coming into the mainstream fashion industry as a real focus. This is in part because of stars like Dan Gokey (American Idol) who bring their love of eyewear fashion to the stage each time they perform and in part because people are beginning to understand fashion in a new and bold way—as an identity and persona they can manipulate and create.

Five Ways to Make Your Eyes Brighter
Filed Under Brand Wave, Designer Eyeglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
Every woman who wears eyeglasses knows that no matter what they try, the glasses still obstruct their eye. This doesn’t have to be the case if you have designer glasses like the frameless beauties from Ralph Lauren. Here are a few tips on how to make your eyes brighter and bolder despite your glasses.
One- go back to the basics. Look at the color wheel and memorize corresponding colors. What applies in art applies in makeup. Blue and orange, for example, look wonderful together. Use blue eye shadow with orange-tinted lipstick to really give a bright and fresh look.
Two- Metallics are in. Silver and gold eye shadow and mascara are back in style. The more glamour and glisten the better. The recent American Music Awards displayed an array of beautiful women in black with silver and gold highlights in their clothing and makeup.
Three- Don’t hide behind your glasses. While bigger frames are in for sunglasses, it has rarely been fashionable to hide your natural beauty behind indoor frames. Think frameless and designer, good brands for this are Ralph Lauren, Prada and Nike.
Four – Remember your hair and skin tones are important. Ignore fashion trends than do not apply to your specific shape and color. Dior frames are intricate and flashy, if your clothing is normally one-color and pattern-less than these frames would be hard to pull off. If you have dark hair and skin, then white frames are too stark, and the opposite is true for light skin.
Five – Have fun! Remember than fashion is about passion for color, texture, risk and fun! If you are not having fun with your look than you are doing it wrong.

Whistler, Here We Come!
Filed Under Brand Wave, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
Blackcomb Mountain, in Whistler, opened its slopes last week to cheers of joy and chants of glee. Before you jump into your skis this season to hit the slopes, reflect briefly on the crisis you had last year with your goggles fogging up on the moguls. Don’t you think it is time to upgrade to better skiing goggles? Here are a few tips from a skier who has tried all the goggles on Whistler’s black diamonds.
Let’s start with the obvious – Oakley. While we think Oalkey makes the best goggles on the slopes, the cost may be high for our budget skiers. Price aside, your Oakley goggles will NOT fog up, they will not get scratches when you nose dive off a steep jump, they will not bend excessively or be too tight around your head. Oakley goggles come in great muted colors so you don’t have to look like a house fly that fell in tie-dye in the crazy purple and orange goggles sold at the base of the slopes. More importantly, the goggles are water resistant, meaning snow or rain that hits the lenses will streak off your field of vision without obstructing it. My favorite thing about the Oakley goggles is that I don’t have to worry about my vision on the slopes, which is something I cannot say about generic brand goggles.
Adidas goggles are a bit more sporty looking, but generally offer similar benefits to their Oakley counterparts. One distinct difference, however, is that Adidas offers smaller goggles which are great for women and teens whose face shapes are smaller or more pointed than a man’s. You’ll also find that the strap on the Adidas goggles is thicker, and thus more snug for racers, jumpers or snowboarders who face plant frequently.

If you wear contact lenses by any major company, like Acuvue you may have felt awkward wearing sunglasses atop them. The reason for this is that the convex of the sunglasses lenses can interfere with the curve of your contacts resulting in blurred outer vision. This only happens with cheaper sunglasses that have plastic instead of glass lenses. You can easily rectify this situation by buying designer sunglasses or ditch the contacts and get designer tinted eyewear useful both indoors and out.
If, after trying contacts with designer sunglasses, you continue to experience problems wearing contacts and sunglasses then immediately seek attention from your optometrist, because serious problems could be lurking under the surface. When buying sunglasses to wear over your contacts remember to buy sunglasses with larger lenses, meaning more surface area so the frames are not visible while wearing them. This will take away undue eye strain and peripheral blur.
Many people confined to eyeglasses with they could wear contact lenses instead, and to those people we say – 90% of you can! (10% of people cannot, for whatever reason, fit the glass or plastic contact lens between their eye and eyelid). If you are one of the millions of people afraid of unable to touch your eye in order to put in contacts, than have a talk with your optometrist, most will show you methods for putting in contacts that do not involve rubbing your finger on your eyeball. If, however, you decide to continue wearing glasses then hunt for a pair of designer glasses that you can be proud of and comfortable in. You’ll want to be happy and content in your glasses instead of insecure and awkward. Spend the extra money to get glasses you’ll love.

Health Conscious Gifts
Filed Under Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
With the new year comes new resolutions. Make your health a top priority, and the health of those around you. This year, as Christmas approaches, give health conscious gifts that keep on giving, and ensure that those around you are as in tune with your health-related resolutions as you are. Here are a few health conscious gift ideas for the holiday season:
Sunglasses: often overlooked, designer sunglasses are necessary year round to protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Designer sunglasses like those by Ray Ban, more than their cheaper counterparts, offer firm protection, style and sophistication. People often forget to wear sunglasses in the winter, which is when most sun related eye damage actually occurs. Help keep your loved ones protected this year by giving a gift that helps keep them safe and youthful.
Yoga: an affordable and creative way to help those around you stay fit is to give yoga mats, videos, position cards or meditation music to your loved ones. More and more yoga is being accepted as a legitimate way to stay fit, look great and feel better than you have in years.
Lessons: many people get out of shape because they have no motivation for being healthy. Giving dance, swimming or aerobics lessons gets people motivated about their health because they are fun activities with groups of peers that they can practice with together.
This year, don’t hurt your loved ones by giving chocolate or perfume they don’t need, give a health conscious gift that will motivate them and keep you on track as well.
