Oakley releases new Gascan Model Sunglasses
Filed Under Brand Wave, Brands' Profile, Designer Sunglasses, Eyewear Knowledge | View Comments
This summer Oakley outdid itself by releasing a new line of sunglasses that donate a portion of all proceeds to the Action Sports Environmental Coalition (ASEC) which was founded by Bob Burnquist in 2001. Oakley has named the new Gascan line after the famed environmentalist, the Bob Burnquist Gascan line, aimed at honoring not only the athlete and the man, but his contribution to environmentalism. Bob made a name for himself as an Olympic skater from Brazil at an early age, and has defined himself as an all-around athlete and humanitarian, and in his spare time runs an organic farm.
The Burnquist sunglasses pay homage to the Gascan design, with thick, clear lines and a bulky shape. They are environmentally friendly in that they are made from recycled sunglasses materials as well as excess materials from the manufacture of other designs. The fiber of the sunglasses is 100% biodegradable, while the logo and storage bags are made from certified organic bamboo. Meanwhile, Oakley is using recycled paper and ink for packaging materials making this a fully functional, designer pair of sunglasses that don’t harm the environment.
Despite their recycled status, don’t be fooled. Oakley does not produce low quality eyewear just to fill a humanitarian check box. The glasses come with premium features, including scratch and water resistant coatings, polarization and the clearest possible range of vision thanks to the lenses being cut from a single piece of glass. Naturally, they block UV rays, are lightweight and impact resistant, and meet all international lens and frame requirements. So, for any tree huger who wants to stay in style, these are the frames for you!

Brad Pitt’s Sunglasses
Filed Under Brand Wave, Celebrity Watch, Designer Sunglasses | View Comments
For a man, Brad Pitt sure pays a lot of attention to fashion. From D&G to Versace and Tom Ford, Brad is able to wear anything and make the ladies swoon, but does his fashion sense make the cut?
In July Brad was out driving around on his motorcycle like an average guy when he ran out of gas and was forced to accept a ride to the gas station from the ever-present paparazzi who were following him. What started as a manly ride around town ended in a photo shoot in the back of a truck. It was during this episode that everyone realized Brad was wearing very bold and daring shades, the D&G 6051 model, which looks at once like a piece of the helmet from The Rocketeer and a kid’s toy. Of course, if Brad Pitt were wearing mud and slime, it would suddenly be in fashion to be dirty and sticky, but we’re a bit surprised that these f all shades have become a big seller since Brad’s (innocent?) little bike ride. Naturally, the coincidence of it leave many to assume he was paid for the stunt.
Dressed up in a suit and tie, Brad looked stunning (despite the ridiculously outdated goatee-mustache combo) in Tom Ford Pablo 0132 model, which is futuristic, shiny and dark—a stark contrast to the Cracker Jack box sunglasses he crash landed in last July. While on set, Brad is dressed and groomed by professionals, which explains why he looks good on set and someone contrived off set.
Even worse than the D&G look for Bradd was the August display of our hottie in Versace 4153 (image). While others may hail this as fashion genius, we think they look like Brad grabbed his grandma’s handbag and found whatever was inside to wear…which includes the ridiculous hat.
