ca0724.JPG Gucci has long been a household name in the fashion industry. Recently surpassed by such powerhouses as Prada and Dior, Gucci is struggling to co-exist in the accessories market in a world where less is more. Gucci continues to stay true to the intricate and creative (some say gaudy) style that once made it famous. While many stars have turned to simpler looks, there are a few die hard Gucci fans who keep the general population yearning for the Gucci glamour that only rock stars and big shots seem to be able to achieve.

Mariah Carrey loves her Gucci sunglasses, and has rarely been photographed without them, recently. Gucci took a classic aviator shape and dazzled it up a bit, curving it for a woman’s face and adding a bit of Gucci flare on the temple bars. This look is especially fantastic on brunettes and darker skin, as the gold really brings out the richness of her tones.

Cam Gigandet, from Twilight, rocked the Gucci look with the GG 1889/S style, which is basically a rounded aviator without the inner nose-bridge that aviators have been criticized for.

Ashley Tisdale, another Gucci fan, has taken her style to a whole new level with Gucci glam aviators with glitz nearly pouring off the temple bars. Tisdale proves once and for all that if you want to go flashy, go Gucci.

Gucci, despite setbacks in the accessories market, was able to break into the male fashion industry with Gucci sunglasses that are not that dissimilar from glamorized Ray Bans. We expect good things from Gucci this season, though we know that they will never abandon the shiny glimmer and glamour that we have come to know as Gucci.

ca0717.JPGThis season we see a return of tried and true fashion from Ray Ban, Dior and Prada, as always, but surprisingly female celebs in Hollywood are branching out into designs that they can really rock rather than just big names. It is all important to find a brand that works with your personality and a frame shape and color that compliments your natural beauty. Here is what the stars have chosen.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, with her triangle-shaped face and lush black hair, has chosen to compliment her natural good looks with Gucci 2598 sunglasses, shown here, which are large enough to make her nose look smaller, and the square frames makes the point of her chin appear longer and more anime like, a rising trend of late. Meanwhile, the intricate designs on the temple bars fit her personality and character perfectly. Well done, Catherine.

Charlize Theron, the adorable, petite blonde of Italian Job, has chosen to enhance her charming girl-next-door look with Tom Ford TF80 shades, which fit her personality as a kind-hearted and gentle actress willing to take on hard roles. The Tom Ford look, popular in the 50’s, has made a come back with stars like Theron and Jennifer Anniston. Charlize Theron proves her diversity as an actress with her Miu Miu MU 18gs, a large frame pair of sunglasses used as paparazzi blockers.

Kate Hudson, a sporty, peppy and talkative blonde who could be the exact opposite of Charlize Theron, also wears Tom Ford sunglasses, the Veronique design. While she is normally sporting her Dior Glossy 1 shades or the even classier Versace 2082B, we think Kate can rock them all with equal pizzazz.

ca0713.JPGTransition lenses are popular with those who are constantly moving between the in and outdoors. But for athletes, who cherish their eyes as their primary weapon in every sport, the transition is not always fast enough and they require something better for their vision. Oakley outdoor eyewear is, arguably, the best in athletic performance enhancing equipment, but hardly holds up indoors or in the workplace. For the dedicated athlete the best option is to buy one set of indoor eyewear, and one set of outdoor eyewear, thus ensuring the health of your eyes and giving you the protection, and fashion, you need to stay on top.

For the casual athlete or weekend warrior, Bolle sunglasses are the perfect fit. With their more subtle and every-day look, Bolle manages to deliver top-quality frames and lenses in a look that is still fashionable and good for daily use.

For the indoor, semi-athletic eyewear, check out Nike’s professional line. With bold, clean lines and stark designs reminiscent of Nike’s earlier feats in the footwear industry, Nike eyeglasses are a smart way to protect your eyes indoors, look fashionable, and stay true to your athletic personality.

A second, albeit more expensive, option for your indoor athletic eyewear is to stay true to your athletic side and purchase Oakley interiors or riflemen’s eyewear. For indoor sports, yellow-tinted eyewear if best because it increases contrast and softens harsh light, like fluorescent lighting. For the avid ping-pong player, for example, yellow-tinted Oakley eyewear could help increase the contrast between the floor and the ball, and give your game the added edge you have been looking for.

ca0706.JPGBorn Aug 29, 1958 – Died June 25, 2009. Michael Jackson, a fashion icon at the forefront of Ray Bans cool image, will surely be missed. Despite child abuse claims and ongoing scandals about his finances and the hefty costs associated with the Neverland ranch, Jackson remains a hero in many eyes for his extensive charity donations as well as ongoing anti drug and drinking campaigns.

Burned in a live performance on stage, Jackson donated the proceeds from the law suit to the burn ward that treated him. He publically pleaded for the Clinton administration to donate more to HIV/AIDs charities. He founded the ‘Heal the World Foundation’ which flew underprivileged children to his ranch and spread money around the globe to children in war zones. He likewise visited Africa, where he campaigned for change and was greeted by thousands of fans. Ronald Reagan brought him to the Whitehouse to thank him personally for his work in combating drinking and drug addiction in the Western Hemisphere.

All this from a man who was simultaneously creating the most wide-selling records of all time, launching the most-watched Super bowel half time, and starring in several movies as well as ongoing music videos. Despite his busy schedule, or perhaps because of it, Jackson managed to deal with the illnesses that struck him with a resilience that is nearly unmatched. He combated his skin ailment as well as the failed rhinoplasty surgeries while sending money abroad for charities, and built the Neverland ranch despite fears that he was doomed thanks to anorexia and lupus. Despite his alleged child abuse claims, Jackson was a good person who managed to touch lives around the world with his music and charity.

ca0703.JPGSummer is in full swing, and fashion is king. Try out the new designs by Alexander McQueen this season for a fresh new take on creative eyewear in 2009. The summer catalog represents a new way of looking at summer colors and lines that does not match the normal pastels and patterns philosophy of Wal-Mart and Target’s ready-made fashions. No, this year summer colors are bold, bright and flashy with clean lines that are almost professional in dimension.

Miu Miu eyewear is another designer to follow this summer. They do not adhere to the cliché summer fashion rules of low-brow fashion. Instead they focus entirely on remaining cutting edge and classy, and a popular brand in Japan and Europe, where fashion is more than a pile of accessories- it’s a way of life.

Giorgio Armani eyewear is all the craze this summer, and we anticipate it will be a top buy in the fall as well. With clean lines and sharp contrasts, Giorgio Armani is a sure way to stay in style and avoid the summer colors of last season. For men, this is the top design for summer 2009 yet powerful women are also prone to the famous Armani brand and professional look.

Versace sunglasses are about artificial anonymity—about pretending to be modest under the banner of high fashion. For the it girl, Versace eyewear for summer are a top choice. Don’t fall into the trap of buying Dior, D&G or Prada because of their big names, Versace has something to offer this summer season that is fresh and new, and fashion forward. Be the it girl that is on the cutting edge instead of the it girl who follows the trends too little too late.
